Note: REFN3-BC With his wife Ruth Slaughter, Joseph lived all his life in Henry County and as the father of five sons and two daughters. Two of his unmarried sons, Daniel King Koger and James Madison Koger were Confederate soldiers and were killed in the Civil War. Last Will and Testiment Joseph Koger I, Joseph Koger, of Henry County and State of Virginia being of sound mind, knowing that all flesh has to die, do make and ordain this my last will and testament, revolking all other wills by me at anytime made. Article the first: If at my death, I shall be owing any debts, I direct that my executor herein after named, proceed to sell such portions of my estate, as he may think can best be spared for the payment of said debts. Article the second: As I have heretofore made advancements to four of my children and have also deeded my land to by sons John S. Kgoer and Joseph H. Koger, for and in consideration that my son Joseph H. Koger, supports me during my natural life, at my death, I give to the said Joseph H. Koger all of my personal property that I now own, to him and his heirs forever. Signed in the presence of Witness: John A. Philpott ad William D. Stowe Marriage: Note: Joseph Koger was a farmer and a mill operator. He and his wife, Ruth Slaughter was married in a double wedding ceremony with his sister, Elizabeth Koger and her brother, Josiah Slaughter. The children from these two unions would be double first cousins.
