Text:   "CARPENTER DIES AFTER 20-FOOT FALL" A 63-year-old self-employed carpenter was dead on arrival Tuesday at Memorial Hospital from injuries suffered when he fell from a scaffold. Amos Branscome Via, Rt. 3, Martinsville, fell 20 feet when he slipped from scaffolding while painting the barn of Millard Pigg on Rt. 58 between Martinsville and Stuart. He was a member and deacon of Spoon Creek Primitive Baptist Church for 28 years. He had been a carpenter 30 years. Born in Patrick County, Nove 30, 1910, he was a son of the late Elder John Peter and Ida Atkinson Via. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Carrie DeHart Via; four daughters, Mrs. Shelby V. Beaver of Bakersfield, CA, Miss Janet Via of Reno, Nevada, Mrs. June V. Frazier and Miss Joyce Ann Via, b oth of Roanoke; a son, Kermit T. Via of Martinsville; four sisters Mrs. Hester Johnson of Tuscon, AZ, Mrs. Mary Lee Jackson of Reidsville, NC, Mrs. Nannie Jooyce and Mrs. Leva (s/b Lena) Klimek both of Madison, N.C. and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Spoon Creek Primitive Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetary. Friends may call at Stone Funeral Home from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday.
