Note:   Acc. to Bible pages located at DAR National Library: John Tanguy, Sr., left West Indies in 1790 (due to slave revolt) and landed at Norfolk, Va., with mother Margaret, brother Peter, and sister. John and Peter moved to Philadelphia and became silversmiths producing quality pieces including urns, bowls, and flatware from 1810-1818. Their silver pieces are in various museums including one at Yale.
 Married 1803 to Cathrine Roben (Roberts) in Phila. Record shows John son of John and Margret Tanguy of Norfolk, Va.
 John had 7 children by first wife. He then remarried and had 6 more children.
 Member of Quaker meeting house.
 Moved to New Jersey in 1818 after yellow fever epidemic.
 Possible close relative was Claude C. Tanguy de Boissiere from Santa Domingo who was an editor of L'Abeille Americaine, newspaper in Philadelphia. Claude died in 1799. Tanguy name found in French history as far back as 1435.
