Note: He worked in the Naval shipyards in New York during World War II and was aboard the ocean liner Normandie when it was destroyed by fire in 1942 while undergoing renovations at its west side pier. He was a journeyman union plumber for over 25 years and participated in many construction projects in New York City, including the Empire State Building and the New York World's Fair of 1964-65.
