a. Note:   . This caused Dorothy Merrifield to list Amanda as second wife & Jane as another daughter. In 1860, Jane was the wife, Amanda a daughter. Jane lived until at least 1865. There are records of her visiting her brother, General William Preston in Louisville in 1865. Clara Van Arsdale remembered attending her Aunt Amanda's funeral about 1905.
Note:   On 1850 Census, there appears to be an error. Jane's age is given as 23, Amanda's age as 45
