With his own plane pierced by shrapnel and lighter caliber projectiles from enemy fire, he was forced to fly blind pull-outs, avoiding the perilous cloud-obscured mountains. Lieutenant Commander Jones' outstanding courage, daring airmanship and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
