He was 61, and a native of Gloster, Miss. He was a retired building contractor and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean conflict. Visiting at Oak Crest Baptist Church, Greenwell Springs Road, noon Tuesday until religious services at 1 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Joe Senn. Burial in Port Hudson National Cemetery. Survived by wife, Vera Vay Stevens, Baton Rouge; a daughter, Vickie S. Elliott, Columbus, Ohio; three sons,Kevin L. Stevens, Gilmer, Texas, Daryl K. and Kary L. Stevens, both of Baton Rouge; four sisters, Joyce Cinquemano and Elsie Butler, both of St. Amant, Audra Dickiey, Centreville, Miss., and Marie Everett, Whittier, Calif.; a brother, Bobby L. Stevens, Centreville; and seven grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents and four brothers. Pallbearers will be Dorsey Netterville, Jerry Ball, Billy Delany, Bobby Midkiff, Riley McDaniel and Billy Wilson. Honorary pallbearers are nephews; members of Oak CrestBaptist Church Sunday School class; and Dr. Gerald Miletello, Dr. A.S. Sanders, Joe Holm, Bill Atkins and Hershal Roberts. He was a deacon and a member of the board of trustees of Oak Crest Baptist Church, a member of Fairfields Lodge No. 425, F&AM, American Legion Nicholson Post No. 38, and a life member of VFW Zachary Taylor Post No. 3784. Memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society.
