a. Note:   Went to Canada late in 1815, and returned to Scotland about 1824. There learned about large sheep farms. Left for NZ on the barque "Mary Ann" of 600 tions sailed from the West India Docks, London, on 24th September 1841. On board 174 travellers, 20 of them passengers including children, the rest immigrants, among them the McRae family, with George McRae assistant to the ships surgeon. Arrived in Nelson on 5th february 1842. Death accidental - when boiling lime and sulphur dip. From trapping beaver and farming in Canada, life in Scotland learning the most advanced methods of stock breeding, and then to NZ to become one of the leading stockowners and breeders of his day.
