a. Note:   NI4 Entered the Territorial Army as part of National Service in May 1965. At the end of National Service he joined the Territorial Force with the 3 Auckland (CRO) and Northland Battalion. He worked his way up through the ranks from private to NCO, and was commissioned in 1970 as a platoon commander at Tokoroa (at the time the Waikato was within 3 Auck Nth's district). As an infantryman he held a number of appointments with 3 Battalion over the years including intelligence officer, mortar platoon commander, and commander of the support company. Prior to being posted to the 6 Hauraki Battalion in 1987 he was 2IC of 3 Auck North. In 1987 he was promoted to Lt Col and took over command of the 6 Hauraki's. He held this position for approximately 3 years before retiring, although he still remained part of 6 Hauraki Battalion. Outside of the military he was an avid distance runner, competing in several marathons. He took up sky diving in 1985-86 and completed in excess of 100 jumps, incuding sky diving in to open the national Highland Games in Tauranga, 1990. He worked in the automotive industry in Auckland for many years, primarily for the Moyes family. Before being forced to retire he was Sales Manager for Natural Gas in Rotorua. Developed Picks Disease (Dementia) not long after leaving his commsion of C.O. of 6 Hau in 1991-92, eventually he was admitted to the Psych unit of Tauranga hospital (ward 7) before being moved to a rest home just out of Tauranga (Pats Place). After an accident there he was moved to a secure rest home in Matua, where he died in 1997.
