a. Note:   Big John Cameron, also known as 'Hench', is one of the most interesting characters I have encountered in my family research. Due in part to the person he was and in part to the times he lived in. There are a number of people researching Big John and therefore there is a wealth of information available, some of it conflicting. Below is a summary of the main points in his life as I believe them to be. Further investigation by a more deticated researcher may uncover more accurate information.

Note:   According to his tombstone John was 100 years at his death which would give his birth as 1781, however I believe that he was actually only 90 at his death.
