Note: Moved to Lumsden from Invercargill about 1883 where J.N.Crosbie took over the Waimea Hotel. Shortly after arriving in Lumsden he purchased the then newly erected Railway Hotel, which his son J.M.Crosbie continued to run after he died. He had considerable experience in the very early days of coaching. He was one of the first men to drive from Tokomairiro (Milton) to Kingston. He was also a pioneer of the Riverton Kingston route. In 1891 he started a line of coaches from Lumsden to Lakes Te Anau and Manapouri.
