Notes
a. Note:   The 1870 census shows William Tanner living with his daughter, Mary, in Bridgeton, Bucks County, PA. According to his son's biography, William came to America in 1843, and his wife and children followed in 1847. We know his wife and children arrived in the 2nd half of 1846. He was a shoemaker and at one time employed 10 men. He was also politically active and served as Supervisor and School Director. William Tanner was received by exam into the First Presbyterian Church of Summit Hill and the Panther Valley on 29 Sep 1844. The Summit Hill church was founded by a group from 1st Dunboe Articlave in County Derry, Ireland. There were (and are to this day) Tanners in that area and many believe that this was the origin of our William Tanner. The 1831 census for the area shows a William Tanner living in Burren Beg, Dunboe, Coleraine, Londonderry, Ireland. It also shows a Nathaniel Tanner living in the same area in Ballyhacket Glenahorry, Dunboe, Coleraine, Londonderry, Ireland. Later in life he purchased a farm in Bucks County and lived out his last days there.
