a. Note:   Hubert Elmer Boyden's baptism sponsors were John Casey and Nellie Dolan. He left his family farm in NY after high school, moved to Philadelphia and began working on his pharmacy degree at the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy. Leone Boyden Cumber remembers the day he left. She said he was working in the barn with their father and they got into an argument. He threw down his pitchfork, went in the house and came out wearing his suit with all of his things in a suitcase. At 18 he left and moved to Philadelphia. He dropped out of the College of Pharmacy during the Depression when it became too expensive and completed his degree at Temple University. He became Executive Vice President of Rorer Inc. (today part of Aventis) and was later named Temple University's man of the year.
