Notes

Note: Registered Marine Engineer and owned Herschel Engineering and Supply Company. Decorated by King Olaav of Norway with Saint Olaf's Medal for contributions to Norway after WWII. He was known as "Norwegian Ambassador to Philadelphia". Before coming to America, they lived in a house across from the National Theater in Bergen which today is a historic landmark. According to his son Richard, Alf is buried in the main, large cemetery in Bergen. According to a family letter, he often used to fish on an island near his grandfather Hansen's home in Manger on the island of Toska. At the time of his christening, the family was living at 20 Skudeviksvei. This photo was taken when his first three children were born and were still young. This photo shows them in their house outside Philadelphia when their children are grown.
