"Joseph Tanner, a storekeeper at Edgewood, died Tuesday evening in his 78th year. He had been ailing since last fall, but was confined to his bed only four or five days. For twenty-four years deceased had been engaged in the mercantile business at the place where he died, having come there from Summit Hill, Carbon county. He is survived by his wife, one son, James Tanner, who keeps store at Woodbourne, and five daughters. A brother, Nathan Tanner, of Lansford, also survives.
