a. Note:   In September of 1863, Bruce turned 17. On January 5, of 1864 he enrolled in Plymouth, NY in Company G, 22nd Regiment of Cavalry, NY to serve 3 years. He was married on January 16, 1864 and mustered into service on February 12, 1864 in Rochester, NY. He died at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, NY on March 4, 1864 from "measles and disease induced [thirsty] by some reputed to be typhoid fever and other inflammation of the lungs". His Civil War records indicate he was also Bruce O Boyden.
