Notes
a. Note:   From Mary Boyden Teagarden in response to my question about memories of being told her father flew spy planes over Germany during WWII taking photographs: "He also flew over China and North Viet Nam while spy pictures were taken--so the family lore goes. In about `1955-1961 or so he flew over the Aleutian Islands regularly and his affiliation was with SAC--Strategic Air Command. This was probably reconnaissance over Russia. In 61-62 he was stationed in Okinawa and South Korea. In 1963 he was stationed with the Air Force Attaché in Venezuela. In 1967 he returned to a SAC affiliation at March Air Force Base where he retired. He was recognized for his service in North Africa in WWII.His affiliation in Venezuela was with the Air Force Attaché unit of the Embassy.Dad kept lots of secrets about his service. For example, I had a map that I was using to track the evolution of industry clusters in the auto industry in China. It had been given to me my Otto Schnepp a Chemistry Prof at USC, and former science Attache in China. Dad got up tight when he saw it and blurted, "That's a CIA map. How did you get it?" I told him and his retort was "I don't want you playing with boys like that." Note I was in my late 30s at the time. I asked Dad, how do you know that. He asked, "What do you think I did all of your life?" I responded, "Flew airplanes." He respnded, "Stick to that story." We never discussed it again.
