a. Note:   Birth: Aug. 29, 1889 Lansford Carbon County Pennsylvania, USA Death: Mar. 2, 1952 Hazleton Luzerne County Pennsylvania, USA Hazleton Plain Speaker; Monday, March 3, 1952: George M. Davies, 62, of 40 North Vine street, member of an old and prominent Hazleton family, died at his home at 1:45 o'clock Sunday morning. A clerk at the office of No. 1 Colliery of the Lehigh Valley Coal Co., he was taken ill a week ago. He suffered a heart condition and had been bedfast since Friday. Born in Lansford, a son of Mrs. Margaret Bynon Davies and the late William H. Davies, he came to Hazleton with is parents 55 years ago, and had since resided here. He entered the employ of the Lehigh Valley at the time that his late father was general superintendent of the Hazleton Division of the LVCCo. and of Coxe Bros. & Co., Inc. Supt. Davies died in 1917. Mr. Davies enjoyed a wide acquaintance. He was devoted to his aged mother and was her constant companion. As a member of the First Presbyterian Church, he had an unbroken record of 45 years attendance at the Gideon Bible Class of that congregation. He was also a member of the Men's League of the Presbyterian Church. His death was an occasion for Rev. Frederick B. Crane to exalt his memory at yesterday's service for his church record. Surviving are his mother with whom he resided, and a sister, Mrs. James S. Miller, wife of the superintendent of the Spring Mountain colliery at Jeanesville. Three nieces and a nephew also survive. Services will be conducted at the Bachman Brothers funeral home on Wednesday afternoon at 1 o'clock with Rev. F. B. Crane officiating, and burial will be in Vine Street cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday night from 7 to 9 o'clock. - PA Death Certificate: son of William H. Davies and Margaret Bynon. He was single and was an office boy for a coal company.
