Born in Elmsdale, she was a daughter of the late Samuel and Annie (O'Handlon) Spares. She was a former teacher and a member of St. Joseph's Church, Shad Bay. The last surviving member of her immediate family, she is survived by three sons, James and Paul, both of Shad Bay; David, Halifax; 17 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, William; two brothers, Willie and Harry; five sisters, Sadie, Muriel, Maymie, Iva and Irene. The body is in Snow's Funeral Home, Halifax. Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday in St. Joseph's Church, Shad Bay Rev. Duncan McMaster officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Holy Cross Cemetery Fund [Reel 7954, pg. 7, Sept 19, 1987]
