Born May 26, 1909, in East Ship Harbour, she was a daughter of the late John and Grace (DeBaie) Monk. She was employed at the Nova Scotia Hospital as a seamstress for 10 years. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, as was her husband. She was very strong willed and spoke her mind on a lot of subjects and a major influence on her family. She enjoyed bingo and reading, loved to sing and talk about many memories she had. She also enjoyed fishing with her sisters in her early years. She is survived by daughters, Audrey (Don), Constance, Betty, all of East Ship Harbour; sons, Joseph (Johanna), Trenton, Ont.; Clive (Willie), David (Theresa), all of East Ship Harbour; 28 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Leo B.; sons, Edward and Winston; daughter, Mary; infants, Eldon, Charles, Ernest, Margaret, Joan; brothers, Patrick, Clarence, Walter, Arthur, Clive; sisters, Hilda and Amy; grandson, Michael Power. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. today with prayers at 7 p.m. in D.S. Crowell & Son Funeral Home, 22558 Main St., Sheet Harbour. Funeral service 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Dennis Roman Catholic Church, East Ship Harbour, Father Eric Bem officiating. Burial in St. Dennis Cemetery.
