Note: Winnipeg Free Press, Wednesday October 1, 2003 GWENDOLYN MARGARET GOODMAN (GOHL) November 30,1914 - September 28, 2003 Peacefully at the Fred Douglas Lodge in Winnipeg. Predeceased by husband Theodore C. Goodman (1981); brothers, Alvin Gohl (Marg, deceased), Flight Lieutenant James Gohl, killed in action in the Second World War); sister-in-law Jean Jacobs (Ralph). Lovingly remembered by children, Alex (Jane) of Winnipeg, Brian (Susanne) of Toronto, Sandra (Larry) of South Surrey, BC and Murray (Joanne) of Roblin, MB; sisters, Muriel Wyman (Russ) of Ottawa, Catherine Lee (Archie, deceased) of Winnipeg and brother Ron Gohl (Marjorie) of Kitchener, ON; in-laws, Charles Goodman (Daisy, deceased), Dorothy Banks, (Sam, deceased) and Esther Goodman (William, deceased); grandchildren, Chris, Alanna, Kathleen, Marty, Trevor, Drew, Jolene, Erin, Patricia and great-grandchildren, Emma and Aden. Thanks to the many nieces and nephews who have fondly remembered our mother and often inquired of her well-being. Gwen was born in Souris, where early years growing up in the towns of Roland and Boissevain, were happy times with good friends and frequent visits with cousins and uncles at the Wilton farms. Following Normal School, Gwen's first teaching position was in the Swan River Valley where she remained for a distinguished 25 year career. She received a Manitoba Teacher's Life Membership for her dedication to teaching. As a new teacher, she met the homesteading Goodman family of Thunder Hill, mar ried Ted and quickly learned to adapt to a farm life, raise her family and come to love the valley as her true home. Her second love was music where she directed Junior Choir and the Golden- Agers Choir at the St. Andrews United Church Her contribution to the Manitoba Music Festival earned her a Life Member Award. She greatly enjoyed anyone to sit down at the piano and play for her. Mom's greatest sorrow was having to leave the Swan River Valley to enter long term care in Winnipeg. We will all cherish our memories of our mother and grandmother. The family wishes to thank the caregivers at the Fred Douglas Lodge for their professional Christian love and care of our mother. Funeral service at St. Andrews United Church, Swan River, Thursday, October 2 at 1:00 p.m.
