Note: Elijah Gohl (b. September 26, 1872 - d. January 17, 1953) was one of the 10 children of William and Elizabeth (nee Marshall) Gohl. William in turn being one of the seven children of Jacob and Jane H. (nee Eckert) Gohl who emigrated from Wirtenberg, Stuttgart, Germany via Liverpool tro Philadelphia in 1830. The crossing took 70 days. They immediately settled in the forest of Mifflin Township, County of Lycoming, Pa. Our great-grandfather William, who served with his brother John in the American Civil War -Company M, Twenty-first Penna Cavalry in the battles of Petersburg and Fort Stedman was born on July 10, 1843 and died early in the 1900's. Father, after teaching public school near home of a short time, was employed as a grain buyer for the McCabe Grain Company, wad was transferred to Graham Siding, where he met mother. Following their marriage in 1912, they established their home at Acorn, Manitoba on the Great Northern line near Carroll, farmed the adjacent one-half section. Their 3 eldest children were born there (sic). The family returned to Roland in 1918 when he obtained employment with United Grain Growers Ltd. James Garfield, Ronald Dudley and Katherine Wilma completed the family. Following years of only partial emplyment, father was again employed as a buyer for McCabe's at Fairburn, Manitoba and in 1927 the family moved to Boissevain, Manitoba. Ourt parents moved to Winnipeg in 1943, residing there until their deaths. Both are interred in Roland Cemetery. Elijah Gohl, beloved husband of Philippa Gohl, aged 81 years. Funeral service will be conducted by Rev. A. R. Huband in the Thomson Chapels, Broadway at Furby, Tuesday. January 20 at 1:00 p m. Interment in the family plot, Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. Funeral July 20 1953. Pallbearers included Albert Wilton, Lloyd Wilton, Don Wilton, Arklos Wilton, Alexander Matheson and Ken Draper.
