Note: Rumor has it that around the age of 15 years Peter Daniel beat up his sister, Margaret Bridget's, boyfriend, because the boyfriend was being a little too "fresh" with her. He beat him up so bad that he thought he'd killed him, so he decided to run away. He then found work as a ship's cabin boy or mariner and returned to the U. S. after the Civil War. His parents had since moved, and he lost contact with all of his family. This was reported by Paula "Jan" Furr of Texas, granddaughter of Curb DeGough, daughter of Nolan DeGaugh (Nolan changed the spelling of the last name in high school). Nolan has a twin, Owen.
