Notes
a. Note:   Amma's family name should have been "Sigridursdottir", if her mother's name was Sigridur. She was the youngest of 13 children. Ten of these survived. She celebrated her birthday on January 24, but her birthday was January 27. Source: Sigurdson Family Vol.II, May 18, 1998 by Henry Anderson Born January 24, 1882 in Iceland, she moved to The Narrows, Manitoba in the 1890's with her parents, two brothers and a sister. Sigga was the youngest of 13 Eggertsons. They settled on the shores of Lake Manitoba where the meadows yielded hay and pasture for their livestock and the lake was a source of fish. In 1899, the Eggertsons moved to the Swan River Valley to homestead once again. In 1901, Sigga maried Sigurdur (Sam) Sigurdson in Swan River where they farmed and raised their six children: Eggert, Leo, Percy, Sigga, Arni and Florence. A highly skilled and resourceful little woman, Sigga worked tirelessly in the care of her home and family on their pioneer farm. Her skill as a seamstress was well-known, taking used wool coats and suits, ripping and turning the material to create new clothes for the youngsters. When her son's wife died, leaving him with two small children and the farm work, she took over the household chores and the childcare for a few years. Some time later, well into her seventies, she made a trip back to Iceland which she enjoyed very much. She died in her eighties. Source: Sigga MacLennan's article on The Narrows; P. Algeo.
