Obituary of Farran Vernon Helmick from the "Huntington (WV) Herald Dispatch," May 7, 1971 Farran Vernon He Helmick, 76, of 1018 Thornburg St., who died Thursday in a Huntington hospital will be entombed in Ridgelawn Abbey of Devotion after funeral services Saturday ay at 3 p. m. at the Klingel-Carpenter Mortuary, conducted by the Rev. Lowell E. Keeney. Born May 18, 1894, in Parkersburg, he was the son of the late Thomas J. and Sarah Mae Potter Helmick. He had retired in 1965 as general foreman for the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway at Ashland, KY. Earlier he was with the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad in West Virginia and Ohio for 33 years. A resident of Huntington since 1946, he was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church here and a life member of the American Railway Supervisors Association a and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace workers. His fat her was once police chief in Parkersburg. Survivors include the widow, Mrs. E Edith Helmick; two sons, G. B. Helmick of Dallas, TX and F. V. Helmick, Jr. of Brea, CA; two daughters, Mrs.J. K. Davis of Richmond, VA and Mrs. James E. Williams of Heath, OH; two stepsons, Gerald M. and Richard E. Tyson of Huntington; a sister, Miss Willa Helmick of Cleveland, OH; a brother, Tom Helmick of Brea, OH, and 22 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
