August 17, 1888 Mrs Atkinson died suddenly. (something about being a "dear friend") April 22, 1888 she was buried today. July 5, 1889 Asked Lucy's father for her. July 6, 1889 Received certificate from the county (to practice law) July 6, 1889 Passed the test July 22, 1889 Tried first case before justices and won. (There's more to entry...names of the participants, but i t's faded) Jane 13, 1891, Caldwell, Ohio. Cold stormy day, but how happy I was that God had given me the sweetest little woman. July 13, 1891 Came on boat to our first new house. 1892 (between May 18 and June 20) God gave us our darling little Roy.How we thank Him for the blessing. May 18, 1894 Carl born at Fairmont, WV A December 29, 1900 (Daniel's daughter Mary C was born) writes that he wished he could take her to work in his pocket. June 20, 1903 Willi am Lewis born in New Martinsville. He also (afterthe fact, recorded his birth date and that of his wife, Lucy) Lucy born August 13, 1870 in Mason County, West Virginia Daniel Clarence born March 13, 1868 in Parkersburg, WV A (We kn ow itwas Bridgeport, because they have copy of his birth certificate) He was a lawyer. He worked for a time as a newspaper publisher. Thefamily moved alot. They lived in West Virginia and Ohio, moving back and forth across t he Ohio River. We was away from home alot and wrote beautiful love letters this wife, Lucy. According to her death certificate, she died on Nov 13, 19 11 from a miscarriage and heart problems. She is buried at the Langdon Cemetery, north of Chesapeake, Ohio. Apparently, Daniel suffered from sort of breakdown after her death. As a result, he was unable to care for his children and his youngest two were placed into foster care. His oldest son Roy, was 19 and went up to Canada, Carl was 17 and went out West to "punch" cattle. Helater joined his brother in Canada where they were employed as lumberjacks . He came back to the US to volunteer for the first World War. After a couple of years, Daniel Clarence did regain his youngest children. He moved to Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania with them. He was employed at the Beaver Falls Water Works (I don't know at what capacity). He died on June 13, 1936 of Heart Disease in Massillon, Ohio. His son, Lewis and wife Ruth were living with him at the time. He is buriedat the Massillon Cemetery. Lived in Massilon fo r 4 years before death, at 884 Wyoming Place NE. Retired. Employed by Beave r Falls PA Water Company. Died at 9:30 PM of Heart Disease, Arteriosclerosis .
