a. Note:   Alias:<ALIA> /Ellen/ Eleanor is called Ellen in the Census of 1850. She is fou nd with her family and is 42 years old. Eleanor is found on her daughter's de ath certificate. In a letter by Willa Helmick the daughter of Thomas J. she says the Heflin family was English and Irish and had been here since early ti mes. There was an English Delancey and a Radish.( I have found the Radish/R eddish connection tp) Also a Creelall. " In information given by Morgan Heflin from his book "The Heflin Genealogical Collection II": The notes of Edith He flin states that Eleanor was called Ellen and she went with her family to WVA in 1849.She took a slave named Harriett who was given to her in her father' s will. See the Fauquier Will Book, page 79-80, Oct. 24, 1849. She returned home after her father died in 1858. In 1878 Wayne H. Thayer visited Alma Pin kard. She was 80 years old at the time and she said that she was the graddaug hter of Eleanor Heflin Pinkard. Eleanor was raised by her grandmother who die d at the age of 104 years. Alma lived on the farmall of her life. She also t old him that John Robert Heflin erected an iron fence around the graveyard on his Turkey Run farm. Eleanor had on son, Jerome Wade Pinkard, the father of Alma Pinkard. Her marriage is listed in the Court House records. They were mar ried by George Lemmon. Her marriage to Nathaniel was listed in the Fauquier Ct., Va. marriage records and it states she was the daughter of William. Her nickname of Ellen was found in the notes compiled by Margaret Gentges and An n Johnson." Her family lived in Warrentown in Farqyui County. She mentioned Culpepper Courthouse. Her father leased most of his slaves for a year at a time and they came home at Christmas. Thy would carry him around the house s inging while they were there.
