Dorothy referred to them as her “TMR kids,†and shefound this to be one of the most satisfying experiences in her career. She was very hands on with the young adults including driving the school bus and supporting their Director ·Dorothy remarried on September 20th, 1975, to Ben Brock, a widower, with 3 daughters, Marsha, Barbara and Linda bringing the count to 7 children. ·During the first 10 years of Ben and Dorothy’s marriage, Ben made sure that Dorothy and her 2 youngest children, Tracy and Jacque, got to do all of the things that she hadn’t been able to do, but wanted to do. These included camping and fishing trips in the Sierras in Independence, California, boat trips in the family boat that Ben fondly namedthe Marlin Bar, which was a combination of his 3 daughters’ first names. Trips included wonderful stays on what was fondly known as “BrockIsland,†Lake Mead, Lake Comanche, Lake Isabella and Lake Perris to name a few. They also dug clams at Pismo Beach and Ben, being the marvelous cook that he was, brought the clams home to make a big pots of clam chowder. ·When Mom retired in 1979, Ben and Dorothy and Jacque moved to CanyonLake, California, so that Ben, upon his retirement shortly after the move, could put the Marlin Bar in his own backyard and get down to some serious daily fishing. ·Both Mom and Ben went to real estate school, got their licenses and began a new career in homebuilding and real estate sales. One of her fond memories was a visit to Texas to pick pecans at Ben’s brother’s farm. They also enjoyed their trip to Banffand Lake Louise in Canada. ·Dorothy was everyone’s best friend, helping neighbors, which included getting her 80-plus year old neighbor her first driver’s license and driving neighbors to church while she was still able to drive. Shewas always a loving and caring daughter to her widowed mother, Mabel, making a home for her the last 15 years of her life. She always usedher wonderful sense of humor to help even when dealing with life crisis. Laughter was a huge part of her life and it made so many other people and family members not take life so seriously and keep it fun. ·Dorothy had children over 19 years, so she had to fulfill the needs of her children at all different ages and different stages simultaneously. While she was helping to get a Halloween costume ready for her 5-year old, she was helping advise on child-rearing for her 28 and 30-year old kids. ·Everyone that knew her will miss Dorothy and their lives were all changed for the better for having known her.
