Note: From David Lloyd Jones: Melchior's union (his marriage) was considered brilliant, for Catherine Du Fosset's parents' families both had ties to the nobility. Melchior De Forest III was a member of the Brotherhood of St. Nicholas in 1533, and in 1562 was Sheriff of Avesnes. He also served as an Alderman in Avesnes. In 1563 he was a merchant in Avesnes, but by 1569 he had moved to a little hamlet called Guersignies just beneath the walls of Avesnes where he was growing grapes for wine. By 1571 he was living back within the walls of the city, where on the 17 Mar 1571 he bought a land rental from Gille de le Plancq. In the contract he describes himself as a merchant and mentions his wife Catherine du Fosset. He died sometime that year since Catherine by 1572 is mentioned as his widow.
