Lathrop Taylor Rude was born February 11, 1809 in Ashfield, Massachusetts Sometime either as a child or adult, he migrated to West Virginia. On April 24, 1832 Lathrop Taylor Rude, (also called Rufus) married one Eliza Phillips. Eliza was born September 23, 1811 (town/county unknown) Eliza was 21 years old and Lathrop was 23 years old when they married in 1843. To this union was born two male children. The first child was born February 27, 1833 and was named Alpheres Rude. The second son was born on April 13, 1835 and was named Gilbert L. Rude. A year after Gilbert's first birthday, his mother Eliza Phillips Rude, died on May 12, 1836. Cause unknown. At the time of Eliza and Lathrop's marriage, Eliza had a younger sister named Ruth who was 11 years old. Little is know of Lathrop and his young son Gilbert until 1843. At that time Lathrop married the sister of Eliza, Ruth Phillips on October 24, 1843. Ruth was 18 years old and Lathrop was 34 years old. Ruth was born on February 7, 1825 in Barbour W. Virginia. There were three children born to Ruth and Lathrop Rude. In 1852 it is know that Lathrop Taylor Rude took his family and moved to Bone Gap, Edward's County, Illinois. He lived there for 28 years. During that period of time he was given to school work, four years as superintendent of the schools of Edward County. In 1880 the family moved to Morris County, Kansas and a few years later to Cherryvale Kansas where Lathrop died on November 15, 1884 of cancer, while living with his son Dwight. He was buried on his son's farm. DEATH: Alpheres Rude dies at age 1 year, 3 months on May 17, 1834. DEATH: Gilbert L. Rude joined the civil war, and was killed on May 2, 1863 at Vicksburg, Mississippi.
