Viola Lucas Maiden name: Schultz Given name: Viola Louise Date of record: November 3, 1977 Source: Glidden Enterprise, Glidden, WI Tragedy struck the community last Thursday noon, when Mrs. Norman Lucas, 49, drowned in Augustine Lake. She apparently fell off a dock at the lake. She could not swim. Mrs. Lucas had accompanied her husband, Norman, to an area near the lake where he was cutting and gathering firewood. She had apparently gone to the lake while her husband worked with the wood. He discovered her missing, and immediately called the Glidden Vol. Fire Department. The firemen asked for high school students to volunteer to help in the search of the area which is heavily wooded. The body was discovered by Jerry Otto and Mark Hart, high school students, who were rowing a boat near the shore in their search area. The former Viola Louise Schultz, was born July 20, 1928, at Park Falls and attended schools there. On Sept. 28, 1946, she was married to Norman Lucas at Park Falls and they resided at Glidden since. Her mother, Mrs. Emil Schultz, preceded her in death. Surviving are her husband; one son, Michael, Glidden; two daughters, Mrs. James Pankratz, Glidden, and Mrs. Nancy Kempf, Kenosha, WI; six grand- children; her father, Emil Schultz, Wentworth, WI; two brothers, Emil Jr., Park Falls, and Dennis, Summit, IL, and a sister, Mrs. Bertha Smart, Summit. The body lay in state at the Bruns Funeral home at Glidden from Sunday afternoon, until the funeral on Monday. The rosary was recited on Sunday evening. Funeral services were held at the Most Precious Blood Catholic Church at 10 a.m. on Monday with the Rev. Virgil Heinen officiating. Assisting was Rev. Dean Buttrick of Shell Lake, a former pastor. Burial was in the Most Precious Blood cemetery.
