Note: BIOGRAPHY: A Hallock Genealogy, William, Charles, and Lucius Hallock, revised in 1860, 1906, and 1928, respectively, Pg 534: "Peter Hallock settled on the original purchase of his grandfather on the eastern side, in West Mattituck, then called Aquebogue. His burial place is unknown. Abiah is called elsewhere "Abigail". Bethia is also named as a daughter." (Note: Abiah and Abigail are two separate people. Abigail in the 1698 census, Abiah buried Aquebogue, born 1702 per headstone/cemetery records). Bethia is in the 1698 census. ________________ _____________ 1698 CENSUS - History of Mattituck. In fact, because of >that I've entered her in my database as Abiah 'Abigail' Hallock. I've >thought it was a nickname, like we would use Abby today, but I could >be wrong. I think the Hallock genealogy is in error here. A transcript of the Aquebogue cemetery shows Abiah Luce, widow of Eleazer, died 13 Dec 1765, ae 63. The Luce genealogy [The American Descendants of Henry Luce of Martha's Vineyard, p. 33] prob. relies on this, because it says Abiah (or Abigail) b. ca 1702. Now if feel that put that "or Abigail" in because of the Hallock genealogy, and the Hallock genealogy identified her with Abigail because they knew Peter Hallock had a daughter of that name. But it is obvious that there must have been 2 daughters- one b. bef. 1698 and prob. d.y. and one b. c 1702.
