Note: ty Barrity (Tuggle) Tye. She was born at Big Popular Creek, Whitney County, an area long settled by the Tye clan. The birth data are recorded by M. M. Smith in his "Vital Statistics." Father John died at a relative young age of 29 years (recorded as 32 by the court), possibly from typhoid fever. According to family stories relayed by Chasity Tuggle of Oklahoma (related to Charity Tuggle Tye), Florence may have worked as school teacher at Mt Vernon and may have had ties with the Cherokee Nation. Florence married Henry G. Taylor (1849-1919) on January 11, 1870, in Campbell County, Tennessee, officiated by Magistrate Samuel Douglas. That marriage information was supplied by them to Henry’s military pension board. Campbell County is adjacent to Whitley County. Florence’s family may have been exploring relocation to Texas at the time. They moved to the Nancy area of Pulaski County, probably soon after wedding and before starting a family. Their large family of eight is listed in the narrative for Henry. The ancestors of Florence Tye on the Tye side have been listed by Rhonda Margie Spears of Danville Kentucky (search <http://www.familysearch.org>). Her reported lineage passes through George Tye (born in Tennessee), a series of John Tyes, and ends with Richard Tye. The latter was born in England in1623 and immigrated to Charles County, Maryland. On the Tuggle side, Tarney Thomas Tuggle of Phoenix Arizona has made an extensive compilation of Charity’s ancestors at the same web address. That lineage passes through Benjamin (born in Virginia, lived in Garrard and Knox counties) and Maacha. The male line traces back to Henry Tuggle Sr of Middlesex, Virginia born in 1670. His father was reported to be Thomas Tugwell I, who was born in England in 1629 and died in Middlesex in 1684. There are many side branches to Tuggle ancestors that include the surnames Herndon, Godbey, Basket, Waller, Digges (including knight Sir Thomas Digges of the court of the same name in Kent, b. 1540), Keats (John of Bucks, b.1587), Smith. The oldest entry is Henry Gumbert, probably born in Notts about 1072. All lines traced back to England. Summary prepared by Aline (Taylor) and James Schneider, December 1, 2007.
