a. Note:   N2794 His birth certificate says: �Pigen Karen Hansdatter Sarp anmeldte som fader ungk. Torsten Larsen fra Sol�r, da i Garvericere hos Ulsteen i Sarpsborg.� The godparents were all from Sarp. Karen was a maid, living in Sarp, a place for the workers of Hafslund. There were sawmills along the shore of Glomma River. People living in Sarp lived in baracks, big houses with several families, near by the famous waterfall Sarpen or Sarpfossen. Age 22 as Kristian Torstens. Hafslund, unmarried, born Skjeberg, in 1865 census living at Kampen in Aker with the Petter Fredriksson Finholdt family as a cabinet maker�s apprentice. Age 32 with last name Torstensen, born Skjeberg, in 1875 census living at Tunisgate 7 in Kristiania (Oslo), Norway as a �snedkerarbeider� (cabinet maker) with wife, 2 sons, & house servant. An affadavit, by the Hals Brothers of Christiania, Norway, attests that Christian has been a box maker for their piano factory for 21 years and an excellent carpenter, dated 1 Nov 1888. Left Norway from Oslo on shipline Angelo on 2 Nov 1888 as Kristian Hafslund, married, age 46, occupation �Snedker� (cabinet maker), residence Ikke St in Kristiania, bound for Chicago. Lived at 353 Milwaukee Ave, Chicago on 30 Nov 1888. Received a job at Kimbal and was working making pianos by 2 Jan 1889. On 8 Jun 1889 he and his son Karl sent 440 kroners home to Norway to transport the rest of the family to America. The family had arrived safely in Chicago by 6 Aug 1889. Was naturalized by 1900. Age 57 (birth month listed as Sep), a widower, in 1900 census living at 1035 Whipple St in Chicago, renting home, as a cabinet maker with 3 children. Age 67 in 1910 census living at 3376 Hiawatha Ave in Chicago as a retired cabinet maker with 2 daughters, a son-in-law, and 4 grandchildren. Name in death index was Christian Hafshund.
