Note: Dad was good at football. Dad was also a good singer and, according to Aunt Eileen, used to beat Peters (from Peters and Lee) to the microphone to sing before he recorded with Diane Lee. Apparently, Lenny Peters was a friend of the Kray Brothers and that was how he managed to get on as a singer. Before the family lived at Kerby Street, they lived 2 doors away from Hitchams Dairy in Alton Street. When my dad was little, he complained to his mum about his dinner and she broke the plate, dinner and all, over his head.
