Note: There is now confusion here. 1881 Census refers to John Morey, 38, husband of Jane Morey. 1891 Census refers to Joseph Morey, 47. There is a possibility that by 1895 (marriage of Florence Mary Moody) he was being referred to as Joseph Moody (as per marriage cert) and that there was no prior marriage to a separate Joseph Moody after all.
But why the interchanging of Morey and Moody?
Why did 1881 Census refer to Florence Mary & Arthur Albert MOODY and at the same time John and Jane MOREY?
Both Florence Mary and Arthur Albert are referred to as MOREY in 1891 Census and that is perhaps understandable. John Morey may have been John Joseph Morey or Joseph John Morey, and that is also understandable.
Most likely explanation is still that there was a separate, earlier marriage to a Joseph Moody.
No! Jane's maiden name was Moody. First two (3?) children were illegitimate.
Baptism records for the Morey children always refer to the father as JOSEPH Morey.
