Messick "Woodrow Paul "Jake" Messick 78 of Route 1, New market died April 5, 1993 at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, where he had been a patient since march 31. he had been a patient at Rockingham Memorial hospital in Harrisonburg before that. "Mr Messick was born April 30, 1914, in Rockingham County and was a son of the late Timothy Paul Messick and Sarah Baker Messick. "He was graduate of the Timberville High School and served with the Army during World War II. He retired from the Capital Transit Co., of Washington, DC where he was employed as a bus and limousine drive and tour leader. He had driven a limousine in both the wedding and funeral of the late President John F. Kennedy. "On November 20, 1954,he married the former Lou Norris, who survives. "Also surviving are a sister, Helen Campbell of Route 1, New Market, and two brothers, Marshall Messick of Culpepper and William Messick of Rome, NY. "The Rev. c. Bernard Troutman will conduct the funeral at 2 pm Thursday at the Theis Funeral chapel in New Market. Burial will follow in the Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery in New Market. "The family will receive friends 7-8pm today at the funeral chapel. "Memorial contributions may be made to the Community Dialysis Center, 847 Cantrell Ave., Harrisonburg, VA 22801 or the Rockingham memorial Hospital, 235 Cantrell Ave., Harrisonburg. A memorial card from the funeral service adds the information that Pallbears were John Abbot, Tony Ditoto, John Mathias, Jay Campbell (nephew of the deceased), Robert Keyser (nephew in law of the deceased) and J. W. Campbell, son of Jay Campbell.
