a. Note:   I, William E. Messick of the city of Rome in the County of Oneida and the State of new York being of sound mind and memory, do make, publish and declare this my last Will and Testament, in manner following, that is to say: First I direct that all my just debts and funeral expenses be paid. Second i direct that my Executor hereinafter named pay out of my residuary estate without apportionment, all estate, inheritance and like taxes imposed by the Government of hte United States or any sate in respect to all property required to be included in my gross estate for estate or like tax purposes by any of such governments, whether the property passes under this will or otherwise, without contribution by any recipient of any such property. Third, all the rest, residue of my estate, both real and personal, of every name and nature and wherever situate, i give, devise and bequeath to my wife, Elizabeth M. messick Fourth; If she shall not survive me, or shall die in or as a result of the same accident or catastrophe as cuases my death, and within 60 days of my death, then i give devise and bequeath my said estate to my children who survive me and as issue of any predeceased children, per stirpes. Lastly, I hereby appoint my wife,Elizabeth M. Messick Executor; or if she shall fail to serve, then I nominate and appoint my sons, Timothy B. Messick and Arthur E. Messick, Executors; and if either of them shall fail to serve, then i nominate and appoint my son Donald E. Messick, age 83 of Laurel Street, Rome,died Tuesday, May 25, 1999 in St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, Utica after a brief illness. He was born on April 23, 1916 in Timberville, Va, a son of Timothy Paul and Sarah Baker Messick. On February 24, 1946 William was married to Elizabeth mcDonald in Long Island City, NY He was educated in Virginia schools, and attended Deforrest Institute (DeVry), in Chicago. William had been the vice president of Caloric Corporation of Pennsylvania, retiring in 1984 with 40 years service. He was a resident of Rome since his retirement. William was a Chief Petty Officer with the U. S. Navy during World War II, had been a member of the VFW and was active in Boy Scouting as a Scout Master. He was a member of St. Peter's Church William is survived by his wife, five sons and three daughters-in-law. Timothy B. (Susan) Messic, Rome, Donald E. (Janice) Messick, Emmerson, NJ, Raymond W. Messick, Phoenix, AZ, Gerarg M. messick, Grand Rapids, Mich, and Arthur E (Anne) Messick, Palmerton, PA; one sister Mrs. Helen Campbell, New Market, VA; one brother, Sheldon Messick, Cu.pepper, VA' tem Grandchildren, Elizabeth, Rebekah,Sarah, Anne, Joan, Emily, Marybeth, Arthur, Adam, Cathrine; and several nieces and nephews. he was predeceased by one son,Barton E Messick, one sister, Velma Messick and two brothers, Truman and Woodrow Messick. Funeral services will be held in St. Peter's Church, Friday at 9:30 AM whee a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery. Friends may call at the Strong and Burns Funeral Home, Thursday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. Contributions in William's memory may be made to St. Peter's Church Restoration Fund. Errata: William worked for Caloric from the mid 60's to his retirement. Before that, he work for Philco Corporation from the time he was discharged from the Navy until he went to Caloric. He was active in Boy Scouts from 1957 to 1973 in Dumont, New Jersey where he lived and raised his family. The troop was through St. Mary's Church, Troop 265. At his funeral, the exit hymn was "Dixie." From an unnamed and undated newspaper clipping in the Price file "William E. "The funeral was Held at St. Peter's Church with burial at St. Peter's Cemetery. "Memorial donations may be made to St. Peter's Church Restoration Fund. "Arrangements were handled by Strong and Burns Funeral Home.
