Note:   All Crowell family information is from a conversation with Aunt Polly and Uncle Larry in May 1997. Disappeared about 1912 while they were in Kennewick or Spokane area. Polly says he went into shipping at end of life. This James supposedly graduated from Harvard University around the turn of the century as a Civil Engineer. He was out West working on a construciton project when he met Maude while she was helping her mother run a boarding house in Spokane. When he left the family around 1912, he told his son James that he could be reached through a certain newspaper's personal ads at any time. Apparently, while Jim, Jr. was working at Columbia Edgewater Country Club in Portland, OR as a golf pro in the late 30's, an attorney appeared on the green and advised him that his father had been killed in an accident on a bridge project in South America. Rosemary said Polly said James was disinherited by his family who owned a shipping line transporting people and goods from Boston to Ireland. Polly also said he married an actress at one end or the other of his life. Name verified by article in Dawson Daily News, October 7, 1907.
