a. Note:   According to Jewel Rayborn Neilson (with added information from Marjorie Rayborn Davison) "Grandpa James B. Dake always said Grandma Rosie Dake would 'die with a broom in her hand.'" This was in reference to her being so scrupulously clean. She never failed to sweep her kitchen after the dishes were washed after every meal. "I spent one summer with them in Mountain Grove [Missouri] when I was 12 years old. (About 1930) She fixed a hearty noon meal each day and had left-overs or other things for supper. Often I remember Grandpa eating a large glass of bread and milk (sometimes cornbread). She had running water and a sink in her kitchen and a drain that ran outside somewhere. There was a pump about 20-30 feet from the back door for larger amounts of fresh water with a nice wooden walkway to it made sort of like our modern 'decks.' "There was no indoor bathroom but at the time I was there (summer) that did not seem like much of a problem. There was always a Sears' Catalog to first read and then use as toilet tissue." -Jewel Rayborn Neilson- September 17, 1987
