Note: Info taken from interview from Emma Jordan, from a PA history book says that her last name was Bruner, but no first name given, and stated that she was from "Holland" (possibly Holland or New Holland, PA). Also note: Most updated information found so far: Info from a PA history book w/ an article about the Jordans, Emma Jordan Interviewed, is called: Commemorative Biographical Record of Central PA: Including the Counties of Centre, Clearfield, Jefferson, and Clarion: Containing Biographical Sketches of Prominent and Represenative Citizens, Etc. Chicago: JH Beers, 1898, BIO: Emma Jordan, Centre County, PA. The article states that Elias settled in Lancaster, PA and built the homestead in Aaronsburg, Centre county. Then from a ship list source, it shows Elias came over on the "Halifax" Palatine ship in 1754- w/ Captain Coatam, departed from Rotterdam, Netherlands. Was said thru generations that the Jordan's came from Alsace-Lorraine, France. So he most likely travelled up the Rine River from there to Rotterdam to board the ship. Alsace-Lorraine was not occupied by Germany until the 1800's, according to recources (Wikipedia, etc.), so therefore they were from the French area. Also It's possible that the Lancaster County PA census info out there is about him in 1790. (12/'13) **Another online source (individual) found information possibly matching Elias up with information stating that he is from Winnsheim, in Franconia, Germany, he married Barbara Endter[in], a widow, from Zurich (Switzerland), on 3/27/1758 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in PA. On 10/18/1767 Elias Jordan & wife (who was Reformed) were communicants at Trinity. Martin Jordan, son of Elias first took communion on 3/26/1780. And no information other states that his wife was a Bruner/Brunner, other than the PA book with Emma Jordan interviewed. It is possible that Barbara Endter was a Bruner previously- meaning since she was labeled as a widow, information was given from a source that most churches back then stuck with the widow's recent surname (Endter in this case), and that before her previous marriage she was actually a Bruner. Also they list in the Trinity Church records that Capser and Martin were children of Elias and Barbara. So if the information is correct, Elias was from Winnsheim (proper spelling Windsheim?), in Franconia, Germany, which is not far from Alsace, France. It is possible that Winnsheim was the latest place he resided before he went to the States. And before that, they could have been originally from Alsace, France, since it was passed down from generations that the Jordan's originally came from Alsace-Lorraine, France. (12/'13 // 1 & 5/'14)
