a. Note:   Have heard that he was a tax collector, deputy sheriff, and sheriff for Butte Co., CA but have yet to find any documentation to prove any of these. Email correspondence from Ray Donnenwirth states he has found no evidence in county records that Thomas was sheriff. He did find that Thomas served as Constable for Oregon Township for 7 months from aug 1876 to April 1877 ( cited pg 333 of History of Butte Co, 1882) Thomas and Mary Headrick Barnes purchased land along Butte Creek (near Richvale) in Butte County, built a home there and 9 of their 11 children were born there (1864-1884)
