Note: She attended Madison Normal School for a year and then taught school east of White for a year before marrying. She walked or rode a horse to the school which was heated with a wood stove. After raising her children, she went back to teaching in 1947. She taught at Pulford School, a one room school, for a year, at Junius, SD, a three room school, for two years, then taught fourth grade at Garfield School in Madison, SD, until the spring of 1971 when she retired. After her retirement, she worked as a teacher's aide. She earned her associate degree in education from General Beadle in Madison, SD, in 1954. In 1975 she was elected woman of the year by the Madison Business and Professional Women.
