Notes
a. Note:   When 18 years of age, he came to America, making his home with an older brother on an Iowa farm. Some time later he and a brother established
a meat market in Omaha, Nebraska. After several years, he started
farming in Iowa. In March, 1907, he came with his family to South
Dakota, where he had bought a farm near White. Since that time he
farmed until failing health and advancing age forced him to give up
his work. In February, 1938, he moved to White.
Three brothers preceded him in death, two of whom were in Germany. One
brother survives in Omaha. He was married to Anna Damitz October 6,
1894. To this union were born eight children two of whom died in
 infancy.
