Note: Mildred Elizabeth Norton was born on Boston Street, Guilford, CT on November 11, 1903 in Guilford, CT. She was the second child of Owen William Norton and Mary Davis Wise. As a child (abt. age 10) she lived on the Trowbridge farm on Moose Hill Road in Guilford with her family. She attended the Moose Hill Road Elementary School and Boston Street schools. In high school, which was the old Shoreline Times Building on North Fair Street, she played on the basketball team. In 1920, when she was 16 years old, the family was living at 12 Driveway. Her maternal grandparents, Edward and Marion (McKay) Wise were living next door. Her father was a dairyman and her mother was a private nurse. She met and married Whitney Julius Thompson, son of Reuben Egbert Thompson and Mabel Clark. Whitney was born on May 8, 1898 in Durham, CT. They met when he was working on the highway from Durham to Guilford. They both descend from John Mack (1653-1721), making them 8th cousins, which they never knew. They were married on June 28, 1924 at the First Congregational Church in Guilford, CT. Her first two children were born at the Guilford Sanitarium. In 1929, they were living at 126 Water Street (now #120), Guilford, CT. Whitney was a truck driver. A lodger, Guiseppe Luisi, 45 year old gardner from Italy was also living with them. Around 1932, they lived on Long Hill Road in Guilford. They then moved to East Haven and lived at 193 North High Street where daughter Doreen was born. After moving first to Tyler Street and then 67 Hemmingway Avenue, they moved to 93 Hemmingway where son Donald was born in 1938, the last in the family to be born at home. Their last home in East Haven was on Cosey Beach Avenue Extension in 1945/46. They moved back to Guilford in October, 1946 and lived at 20 Water Street. In 1957 they moved into 82 State Street, Guilford, CT where family has lived since then. She was a housewife and worked for Southern New England Telephone Company as a Switchboard telephone Operator. She had blonde hair, hazel eyes and was 5 feet 9 inches tall. She liked gardening, cardinals and watching the Lawrence Welk show. She died of Alzheimer�s disease and old age. The nursing home where she died no longer exists.
