Notes
a. Note:   Warren Alvin Thompson was born on June 22, 1840 on Rt 79, just north of the Neck River, in North Madison, CT. He was the oldest of 9 children of Alvin Thompson and Abigail Watrous. His grandparents were (Le)Baron DeKalb Thompson, Mary (Polly) Parker Thompson, Russell Watrous and Lydia Webb. His grandfather, Russell Watrous died before he was born. In 1848, his grandmother, Lydia Webb Watrous died. In 1850, he was 10 years old, living with his father (a farmer), mother, and brothers Richard, Ralph and Russel Almon. In 1860, he was 20 years old, living with family which included brothers Richard, Ralph, Russel Almon, Carlton, Clayton, and Clifford; sister (Eliza)Lydia; and grandparents Barron Thompson and Mary Parker Thompson. Baron died December, 24, 1860. On October 12, 1861 he married Myrta Amanda Hall in North Guilford, CT (Rev. George Wood officiating). He was a farmer, aged 21 and she was 19. She was born in Guilford, on January 3, 1842, daughter of Edward Hall and Elizabeth Miranda Fowler. Warren and Myrta had 11 children born between 1862 and 1882, the first one born just 4 months after marriage. They resided in North Guilford (between the Rossiter's and Benton's) He did not serve in the Civil War (not sure why), but three of his brothers (Richard, Ralph and Russel) did as well as his wife's 2 half brothers (George and Dwight Hall). His brother, Richard, (served 1 year) enlisted on September 5, 1862 as a private in "B" Co., CT 24th Infantry. Richard was wounded on June 14, 1863 at Port Hudson, LA and mustered out on September 30, 1863. Ralph (served 3 years) enlisted on August 9, 1862 as a private into "G" Company, CT 14th Infantry. Ralph was wounded at Antietam (September 17, 1862) and at Chancellorsville, VA on May 3, 1863 (left hand), On May 16, 1864 he transferred to the "159th" Co. VRC 2nd Battn and was discharged on July 5, 1865. Russel Almon enlisted as Almon R. as a private into Co. B, 12th CT Infantry on February 19, 1864. He was captured on October 9, 1864 at the Cedar Creek, VA. Prisoners were taken to Libby Prison in Richmond, VA and then to Salisbury Prison in NC. It is recorded that he enlisted on November 15th, 1864 in the Rebel Army (regiment not indicated). The horrible conditions at Salisbury Prison are well documented. Owing to lack of food, very little shelter, the extreme winter of 1864 and overcrowding due to transfers from Andersonville. It is possible that Almon enlisted in the Rebel army to escape the prison conditions (here or elsewhere). George Hall enlisted on 8/15/62 as a Corporal. into "I" Co. CT 14th Infantry. He fought at the battle of Antietam. He received an accidental gunshot wound which disabled his fingers for field service while at Harpers Ferry and was discharged for disability on 12/11/62 at the convalescent camp near Alexandria. George was 6' tall, blue eyes, light hair, light complexion. Dwight H. Hall enlisted on 11/7/61 as a Private. into CT 1st Light Artillery until 11/13/64. He also had service in: "F" Co. CT 1st Infantry. His nickname was "Possum" because he always foraged for food, especially possum. Based on the descriptions of his two brothers, he probably had blue eyes and dark hair. (Brothers: Almon had blue eyes, dark hair, light complexion and was 5' 4 1/2" tall.; Ralph had dark hair, blue eyes, dark complexion and was 5'9") (A) In 1864, his little sister, Helena Isabella, was born in March. She died in October from inflamation of the bowels. In 1865, his brother (Russel )Almon was buried in West Cemetery, Madison, CT. (Civil War). He named his next son Edward Almon, b. November 13, 1865. In June, 1869, his mother died from Apoplexy, and his father married Julia Dowd in November, 1870. Warren was a Farmer, Laborer and Grocery Clerk (1871).
