Note: Charles Frederick William Garner, Jr. , the first child, was born in Toronto on Sept. 3, 1886. As an adult, he worked as a decorator and painter while the family lived in Chatham. On June 3, 1913 he married Annie McMath, daughter of Francis McMath. Charles and Annie had one child, Dorothy, who was born on Oct. 18, 1916. The family moved to Detroit on Dec. 16, 1918, locating near Charles' parents. Charles worked as a house decorator, as well as running hotels. His wife, Annie, was instrumental in maintaining the hotel business. She was a hard worker, who rarely took time out for herself. Unfortunately, this may have lead to her early death. Charles continued taking in roomers until ill health forced him to retire. His daughter, Dorothy, and her husband, Richard Laird, moved him to Seattle where they lived for many years. When they returned to Detroit, Charles died a short time later on July 16, 1963.
