Note: He was the second child born on July 25, 1888 in Toronto, Ontario. While the family lived in Chatham, Robert worked for the CPR Railroad. He came with his parents on May 1, 1915 to Detroit and lived with them while working at the auto plant. He started out as a laborer, then became a journeyman's helper where he trained to be a journeyman machinist.
