Newspaper article that Pat Lynch mailed to me:
Tekamah lost another of its old time citizens when James Calvin Sackett passed away last Saturday in an Omaha hospital where he had been taken following injuries received when a team ran away when he was doing some work at his home some time ago. Funeral services were held at the Baptist church in Tekamah on Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock with Dr. John Harbaugh officiating. His jovial nature and love of children made Mr. Sackett a favorite with many of Tekamah's young people. During the past year he had charge of the city auditorium and the recreational activities which have been held there. He was fond of the youngsters who attended the roller skating parties and they enjoyed his friendship. Pallbearers were old friends of Mr. Sackett, namely, Fred Garner, Bryan Corbin, Jim Webster, Ervin Ray, Art Twiford and Claude Stout. Burial was made in Tekamah cemetary. Music at the funeral was provided by Leatha Lee Harbaugh and Barbara Carlson, who sang "Rock of Ages" and "Nearer My God to Thee." They were accomplanied by Mrs. Harbaugh. James Calvin Sackett was born at Batavia, MI, May 30, 1868, and passed away at a hospital in Omaha, May 19, 1946, at the age of 77 years, 11 months and 19 days. He came to Nebraska when 16 years of age and after living in various communities moved to Tekamah, where he has resided for more than half a century. He was baptized at the age of 12 years, while living in Michigan, and has been a member of the Baptist church at Blair for many years. He was married to Anna Harris of Tekamah on July 14, 1895. To this union ten children were born, eight of whom survive him. Mr. Sackett spent many years in railroad construction work and his latter years were spent in farming. The survivors are his wife, Mrs. Anna Sackett; five sons and three daughters, Dorman L. of Portland, OR, Mervin F. of Los Angeles, CA, Ned of Tekamah, Calvin H. of Oakland, CA, Adelaide of Omaha, NE, Fay L. of Pender, NE, Paul H. and Dorothy M. of Spokane, WA. Two sons, Donald and Thad, preceded him in death. Mr. Sackett also leaves four brothers, Thad of Bronson, MI, Frank of Omaha, NE, Henry and Carl Sackett of Haigler, NE, and Milton Sackett of Great Falls, MT, eleven grandchildren and a wide circle of friends - Burt County Plaindealer
