Her berth place was in a place called Nine Pardners, Duches Co. He went into the war in the commencement was taken prisoner one year before Burgoyne was taken lay in an old sugar house standing near where the late post office stood in New York one year suffering more than to suffer death had his jaw broke for rejoicing at the surrender of Burgoyne which news he got by intrigue was exchanged and being feeble he was made Col and was sent with a force to Sara Toga to keep the savages and Tores quiet where they staid till the close of the war. I have seen the house many a time they lived in So I was told by an old man living there at the time. Manya time the family were aroused at midnight by the whoop of the Indians and fled to the river a few rods off got into their boat and lay out in the stream till day light all still. At the close of the war they returned to Duches Co,, N. Y. where my father became acquainted with them having set up a store in the neighborhood of a fortune he lost nearly all The government gave him a large tract of land where Elmira now stands. His children were high fliers all girls except the two youngest. H. V. Teall (Note by E. N. T.; H. V. Teall is Horace Valentine, my grandfather's father)
